The Amami-Okinawa-Ryukyu Research Center

This research center conducts joint research on the history and contemporary issues of the Ryukyu Islands including the Amami Islands, and also cultivates young researchers who will engage in studies on Amami, Okinawa and Ryukyu to establish a continuous research network in the field. ‘Amami’ is included in the name of the center because when examining the modern and contemporary history of Ryukyu, Okinawa-Amami relations hold great importance, and the history of Amami has its own specificity that prevents it from being integrated into the histories of Ryukyu and Okinawa.
